WordCamp Madrid 2023 – Thoughts

·

On the 4th and 5th of November, WordCamp Madrid took place—a personal favorite among the WordCamps I’ve attended.

WordCamp Madrid holds a special place in my heart, having actively participated in all four events spanning from 2017 to 2023, contributing as a speaker, volunteer, and organizer.

This has been my first WordCamp with 2 kids and, to be honest, I have not been able to help as much I would love to.

The best job I did in my opinion was the contributor’s day, which I considered a success with some pull requests already included in last Gutenberg version.

My responsibilities included overseeing attendee lists, addressing minor event-related matters, and introducing various speakers. This allocation of tasks left me with limited time for networking, consequently impeding my capacity to offer nuanced insights into the event.

Having the fortune of being sponsored for full-time work within the WordPress community, I am inclined to dedicate the remaining time to my personal well-being and taking care of my family.

Contemplating future WordCamps, I intend to limit attendance to those in close proximity, eliminating the need for overnight stays away from home. Additionally, I’ve decided not to pursue speaker roles, acknowledging that others may derive greater benefit from the “speaker experience.”

However, I will always find joy in offering assistance at Core tables during Contributor’s Day—a space where I can ensure that new contributors feel welcomed, supported, and empowered.
